A.NA.ME.R agreement with the National Association of Rural Doctors

In order to further medical care, on August 3, 2001 Ayuda Directa signed an agreement with the National Association of Rural Doctors (ANAMER), with whom cooperation is anticipated in the Province of Chimborazo (Ecuador).

We are committed to assist in the purchase of medicines, while doctors offer their services voluntarily. Our presence in the community is necessary in order to assess needs and work towards solutions for serious problems.

Who are the rural doctors?

Recent medical graduates are sent by the Ministry of Health from many areas in order to contribute a year of service. The conditions in which they work are often difficult. In smaller hospitals there is little equipment and even provincial hospitals lack the most basic resources. For example, the hospital of Cajabamba, Colta - an area in which 80,000 people live - is not even equipped with an ambulance.
